Design Directions
Ajay's primary interest is in modeling and simulation of physical systems on the computing machine. He has worked on large scale simulations of quantum systems during and after his Ph. D. in condensed matter physics from the University of Pune, in collaboration with the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.
Over the past few years, he has been working in close association with the product design team at Design Directions, contributing to projects that interface science, simulations and design. He has also been responsible for development of the design process for medical products at Design Directions. Ajay is passionate about using simulations as a tool to achieve reduced costs, increased usability and improved products and environments.
With several publications to his credit, he has presented his research at many international conferences and symposia in India and Europe. He is currently a research advisor for Re, a modeling and simulation company, and a member of technical staff with the Nano- Sciences simulation group at the Computational Research Laboratories, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons in Pune. Apart from Science and simulations, he is interested in typography, wind-surfing, enterprise class sailing, playing percussion instruments, reading, trekking the sahyadris, eating out and cinema. He is a visiting faculty at the Center for Modeling and Simulation, and Interdisciplinary School of Scientific Computing at the University of Pune and loves to teach.
Ajay is married to Vineeta, an NID graduate in textile design with her own design studio in Pune and they have an eight year old son.
